My passion for education was first sparked when I had the opportunity to spend a year working as a teaching assistant in the UK. It was during this year that I learnt the importance of early years education and the value of providing learning opportunities where creativity and curiosity are nurtured. After completing a Bachelor of Business Science in my hometown of Cape Town, I decided to take an opportunity to move to Hong Kong to pursue my passion for education.
My journey as an educator in Hong Kong has been an exciting one. During my first years, I had the opportunity to teach English to students aged between 2 to 12 years at an English language center. My experience working with young learners inspired me to study for a Postgraduate Certificate in Early Years Education which allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the early years learning process. Following my studies, I spent time in the classroom teaching children at playgroup, kindergarten and primary level both in Ireland and Hong Kong.
I am passionate about inquiry-based child focused learning where each child’s ideas, questions and individual needs are valued. Everyday is an adventure of learning as we explore, ask questions, problem-solve, and reflect about the world around us. I believe that children learn best when provided with a variety of experiences through which they can explore and express themselves. Through experiences with music, maths and art to STEM, cooking and drama, I hope to inspire, engage and nurture every child.
Play therapy is another great passion of mine. Currently, I am studying for my Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills. Outside of the classroom, you can find me exploring the beautiful waters of Hong Kong in a dragon boat or outrigger canoe. I also love nature and take every opportunity to get outdoors.
I am extremely excited about the work which Fairchild has been doing and their approach to children's education. It is truly special to welcome families into such a warm and inspiring environment where each child is valued and nurtured.
