Biography of Camilla Calkin

I have a strong value for the importance of the Early Years in children's education and in 2013 trained at the London Diocesan Board for Schools, SCITT, where I graduated with a PGCE and specialism in the Early Years. I began my teaching career in East London, working as a Nursery and Reception teacher for three years before making the move to Hong Kong. Since then I have been teaching Kindergarten for the past six years, working in the international school system, and have very much made Hong Kong my home.

I have a high value for ‘interest led learning’ and aim to provide a rich learning environment where, through exploration and discovery, children can become creative and independent learners. I very much support the Reggio Emilia philosophy and in 2019 had the opportunity to complete the Reggio Study Tour in Italy, with Reggio Children. This provided me with a deeper investigation into the values and concepts of the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching and learning and how to implement this in the classroom. I am committed to promoting and instilling a love of learning for children from a young age and value the importance of collaboration with parents to ensure a successful early years experience. I am excited to continue my teaching career at Fairchild Kindergarten and very much look forward to being a part of your child’s learning journey.
